Licensing Terms
Last updated: June 2025
1. Overview
9to5Interview offers two distinct licensing models: a Hosted Service License for platform access, and a Source-Code License for organizations that wish to own, modify, and deploy the platform independently. This document outlines the terms governing both models.
2. Hosted Service License
Under the Hosted Service License:
- 9to5Interview hosts and maintains the platform on our infrastructure.
- Users are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access and use the platform for interview preparation and assessment purposes.
- We handle all updates, security patches, server maintenance, and data backups.
- Users may not copy, reproduce, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source code from the hosted platform.
- Access is granted upon payment and remains active for the duration of the subscription period.
3. Source-Code Licensing Models
9to5Interview offers four distinct source-code licensing models. Upon execution of the applicable license agreement and receipt of payment, the following terms apply:
3.1 Perpetual Source-Code License
- Full Source Code Access: Complete, unobfuscated access to the platform's source code.
- Modification Rights: Modify, extend, customize, and rebrand the platform to suit specific requirements.
- Deployment Rights: Deploy on infrastructure, servers, or cloud environments of the licensee's choosing.
- Internal Distribution: Distribute the modified or unmodified platform within the organization for internal use.
- Ownership Terms: Once purchased, the license to the delivered version is perpetual — ownership and usage rights are retained indefinitely, with no recurring fees for continued use of that version.
3.2 Subscription Source-Code License
- Full Source Code Access: Ongoing access to the platform's source code for the duration of an active subscription term.
- Modification Rights: Modify, extend, customize, and rebrand the platform for the subscription duration.
- Continuous Updates: Access to platform updates, security patches, and new feature releases issued during the subscription period.
- Deployment & Distribution Rights: Same deployment and internal distribution rights as the Perpetual License.
- Ownership Terms: Continued access to the source code and future updates is contingent on maintaining an active subscription.
3.3 White-Label / OEM License
- Full Source Code Access: Complete access to the platform's source code.
- Rebranding Rights: Rebrand and repackage the platform under the licensee's own brand identity.
- Resale & Integration Rights: Integrate, resell, or embed the platform within the licensee's own product offerings, subject to the executed agreement.
3.4 Community License
- Full Source Code Access: Complete access to the platform's source code, including full rights to view, edit, and customize the entire codebase.
- Modification Rights: Edit and customize the codebase as needed.
- Hosting Requirement: Deployment is restricted to 9to5Interview's private hosting infrastructure.
- Hosting Charges: Hosting is billed separately, in addition to the license fee.
4. Restrictions
- You may not resell, sublicense, or distribute the source code (or derivative works) to third parties as a standalone product.
- You may not use 9to5Interview trademarks, logos, or brand identity in your modified deployment without written permission.
- You may not use the source code to create a competing SaaS service offered to external customers.
- Attribution to 9to5Interview in the codebase must be maintained unless explicitly waived in the license agreement.
5. Technology Stack
The source code is built on a modern, production-grade technology stack:
- Next.js (App Router) with React and TypeScript
- Modern UI components with Tailwind CSS
- AI integration for real-time interview evaluation
- Voice processing and speech analysis capabilities
- Database integration with PostgreSQL
- Docker-ready for containerized deployments
The codebase follows current industry best practices and is regularly updated to the latest stable versions of all dependencies.
6. Support
Support varies by license type:
- Hosted Service: Email support at info@9to5interview.com. We handle all technical issues, uptime, and maintenance.
- Source-Code License: Priority email support included for the first 12 months. Covers installation guidance, deployment assistance, and technical consultation. Extended support available via separate agreement.
7. Education & Non-Profit Eligibility
Universities, colleges, registered educational institutions, individual students, and registered non-profit organizations are eligible for discounted pricing on both licensing models. Eligibility is verified via institutional email, enrollment documentation, or non-profit registration certificates. See our Education & Special Offers page for full details.
8. Delivery
Source code is delivered via a private GitHub repository. After purchase and license execution, buyers are granted access to the repository containing the latest stable version. Access remains active for the duration specified in the license agreement, allowing buyers to pull updates during that period.
9. Warranty & Liability
The source code is provided "as is." While we ensure the code is functional and tested at the time of delivery, we do not guarantee compatibility with all environments or future third-party dependency changes. Our liability is limited to the license fee paid.
10. Governing Law
These licensing terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of India.
